Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy for OCD and Anxiety in California
Whether you’re considering therapy for the first time or seeking advanced treatment for OCD, anxiety, panic, or trauma, these answers can help you understand what to expect.
1. How do I get started with therapy?
You can begin with a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your goals and determine whether we’re a good fit. Once we start therapy, your first few sessions focus on understanding your concerns, history, and treatment goals.
Learn more on our Fees page and Approach page.
2. What types of therapy do you provide?
I offer evidence-based approaches tailored to your needs, including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD
Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT) for OCD
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma
Mindfulness and self-compassion strategies
Explore the full details on the Approach page and Services page.
3. How often will I meet with my therapist?
Most clients begin with weekly sessions for 50 minutes, to build momentum and achieve results quickly. Weekly meetings can help you reach your goals as efficiently as possible. Once you have made some progress towards your goals we can discuss if biweekly sessions are appropriate. Extended sessions (80–110 minutes) or more frequent appointments are available when clinically indicated.
See details on the Fees page.
4. How long does therapy last?
The length of therapy can vary depending on your needs and goals. Individuals who commit to weekly sessions and complete “homework” or practice assignments outside of session are more likely to meet their goals sooner. Once we have completed the intake, I may have a better sense of how long therapy will take.
5. Are video sessions available?
Yes. Secure HIPAA-compliant video sessions are offered for clients located in California or Florida. You must be physically present in one of these states during the appointment.
6. Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider. Many insurance plans may reimburse a portion of your therapy fees. I provide monthly invoices (superbills) to submit to your insurance carrier.
My fee is $400 per 50 minute session.
More details on my Fees page.
7. Do you offer in-person sessions?
In-person sessions are offered in Los Altos, CA.
8. Can family or loved ones be involved in therapy?
When appropriate, I may invite family members or partners to 1–2 sessions to help reduce anxiety or OCD accommodations and improve support. Loved ones learn practical ways to support your progress.
Learn more on the Approach page.
9. What should I expect in therapy?
Therapy is collaborative and goal-oriented. You’ll learn practical tools for managing anxiety, OCD, panic, or trauma, and we track progress together. Your treatment plan is adjusted as needed to ensure it meets your unique goals.
10. Do you provide consultation for therapists?
Yes. I provide 1:1 consultation for therapists seeking support with OCD and anxiety cases. Consultation focuses on complex cases, evidence-based approaches, and refining clinical skills. Additionally, I co-lead an OCD consultation group for therapists.
